7/7/2014: Day 6

1. Project PROBLEMS.
How can we get the word out about registering to donate bone marrow through a YouTube video?
2. Design Thinking MODE.
    Ideate
3. TOOL.
Ideating again...this seems to be the longest step.  Today we laid out our video plans.
4. What did I HOPE TO GAIN from the tool?
From this section of ideating I hoped to be able to get a solid video idea and get ready to put it together ASAP.
5. What did I GAIN from the tool?
Well, we decided on a theme video emotion: emotional aka. heart tugging.  We came up with a simple story line.  It was going to be a video about the life of a cancer patient.  We wanted to make people realize that cancer patients are in a lot of pain and that all it takes to save their lives and take the pain away is one person donating bone marrow, such a simple process.
6. What do you think the SOLUTION is?
An emotional video about the life of a cancer patient is how we will spread the word about bone marrow registry.

7/2/2014: Day 5

1. Project PROBLEMS.
How can we get the word out about registering to donate bone marrow? (same)
2. Design Thinking MODE.
    Ideate
3. TOOL.
Today we did some more ideating.  We watched videos that promoted certain movements or tugged on a certain emotion.
4. What did I HOPE TO GAIN from the tool?
From these videos we hoped to be able to pin point the type of video we were going to make, whether it be informative, emotional, inspirational, etc.
5. What did I GAIN from the tool?
From the videos that we watched during class, we found that there were tons of different kinds of videos.  We watched a TED talk and got a few insights regarding the creating of a video that goes viral on YouTube.  So after a little discussion we decided we would need to formulate a story for our video, no matter what type we decided to do.  We brainstormed ways to get people talking about registering to donate bone marrow, and that was about as far as we got.
6. What do you think the SOLUTION is?
At this point, I think a YouTube video is going to be our best way to spread the word.

6/30/2014: Day 4

1. Project PROBLEMS.
How can we get the word out about registering to donate bone marrow?
2. Design Thinking MODE.
     Define
3. TOOL.
Today Lindsay and I went around campus and surveyed random students.  We had a list of options for the questions we were asking.
4. What did I HOPE TO GAIN from the tool?
We wanted to find out what the best mode of communication was for students around campus.
5. What did I GAIN from the tool?
From this survey we found it was not our best effort.  We asked students which of our 5 main modes of communication would work best for them, then we asked which of the sub groups worked best.  First we were asking which mode they would use if THEY were getting the word out to someone else, but this quickly went downhill when the students started getting confused.  They wanted to know who the audience was and what they were getting the word out about.  We thought this would be a simple survey, but it turns out it was not simple at all.  After much confusion on our part and the student's we were surveying, we decided to wrap up the survey and figure out a simpler way yo find our key mode of communication.
6. What do you think the SOLUTION is?
I think that the solution now is to find out how to utilize social media in the best way possible to spread the word about registering to donate bone marrow.  I think this would be our best bet concerning our modes of communication.
